Flood Insurance

Think you need to live near water to need flood insurance? Think again.

The National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) was instituted in 1968 by the Federal Government. At that time, insurance companies were unable to provide flood coverage due to the localized nature of the peril which makes it impossible to obtain coverage. Flood insurance normally covers losses related to:

  • An overload of inland tidal waters

  • Abnormal and rapid accumulation of runoff of surface water from any source

  • Mudslides caused by accumulation of water on the ground or underground

  • Collapse of land as a result of excessive erosion due to flood

We understand that Flood coverage is not necessary for all Californians to have. We can make this determination by discussing with you where your home is located, if you are on a flood plain and what coverage is available in your area. It is important to note, water spray, pipe breakage, and sewer backup into a dwelling are not considered flooding losses.
